Keyser Beats Hampshire, 57-53

ROMNEY — Matt Wilmer scored 20 points and Preston Hartman had a double-double with 22 points and 16 rebounds as Keyser held on to beat Hampshire in an Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference game at Hampshire.

Jeremy Green also had a double-double for the Golden Tornado with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Cody Spotts dished out five assists.

Hampshire was led by Robbie Miller with 21 points. Michael Clark and Will Hughes added 10 points each.

Keyser led 20-16 after one period and 32-21 at halftime. Hampshire cut the margin to two points, 39-37, in the third quarter.

The Keyser junior varsity team won 50-31 as Wesley Stullenbarger scored 14 points and Wes Washington 10. Ollie Douthitt had eight for Hampshire.

Keyser (8-6 overall, 5-5 AMAC) will play at Southern in a make-up game on Monday. Hampshire (1-14, 1-8) visits Northern on Saturday.

Keyser Gets By Trojans, 57-53

ROMNEY - Three players accounted for all but one point and Keyser survived a bad third quarter en route to a 57-53 victory over the Hampshire Trojans on Thursday evening in Romney.

Preston Hartman, Matt Wilmer and Jeremy Green combined for 56 points as the Golden Tornado improved their record to 8-6 on the year.

Hartman led the way with 22 points and 16 rebounds, while Wilmer added 20 points and Green had 14 points and 11 boards.


Cody Spotts chipped in with a team-high 5 assists.

Keyser took a 20-15 lead after the opening quarter and opened things up in the second frame, holding Hampshire to just 6 points to take a 32-21 lead at the half.

The Trojans returned the favor in the third quarter, holding the Golden Tornado to just 7 points to cut the Keyser lead to 39-37 heading into the final eight minutes.



But Keyser was able to hold off Hampshire in the fourth quarter, as the trio of Hartman, Green and Wilmer did just enough to secure the win.

Robbie Miller led Hampshire with 21 points, while Michael Clark added 10.

Will Hughes, who scored 29 points in Hampshire's 86-83 overtime loss to Keyser on Jan. 4, managed just 10 points on Thursday, with only 2 points coming after the first quarter.



Keyser also won the JV game, 50-31.

Wes Washington led Keyser with 10 points, 8 rebounds, 8 steals and 5 assists, while Wes Stullenbarger added 14 points and 4 steals.

Ollie Douthitt led Hampshire with 8 points.



Keyser will return to action Monday, Feb. 4, when it travels to Southern for a make-up game beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Allegany Trips Keyser, 77-57

KEYSER, W.Va. - Cody Ellsworth and Cameron Butler had double-doubles to power second-ranked Allegany over fifth-ranked Keyser in an Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference contest.

Ellsworth led the Campers with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Butler scored 11 points and contributed 10 assists. Jordan Grady scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Travis Dordevic reached 12 points and seven rebounds. Casey Roberts scored 13 points, and had three steals as the fifth Camper to score in double digits.

Allegany held a 24-20 lead entering the second quarter, but pulled away with a 18-7 second. The Campers were ahead by a 56-40 count by the close of the third.

Jeremy Green led all scorers with a 22-point performance for Keyser. He also added eight rebounds and five steals, while Preston Hartman had 18 points and eight boards. Matt Wilmer finished with 11 points and five assists.

Demetrius Taylor scored 28 points as Allegany won the jayvee game 71-59. Wes Stallinbarger had 24 for the Golden Tornado.

Allegany (13-2, 8-1 AMAC) will play at Fort Hill on Friday. Keyser (7-6, 4-5) plays Thursday at Hampshire.

Campers Roll over Keyser, 77-57

Cody Ellsworth recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Allegany Campers to a 77-57 victory over the Keyser Golden Tornado on Tuesday evening at Tornado Alley.

Ellsworth was one of five players to reach double figures in scoring for Allegany, which improved to 13-2 on the year.

Jordan Grady had 14 points for the Campers, while Casey Roberts added 13, Travis Dordevic had 12, and Cameron Butler contributed 11.


Monday's game was far cry from the teams' first meeting on January 2, when Allegany escaped with a 74-72 victory in Cumberland.

After a back-and-forth first period, Allegany blew the game wide open in the second frame.

The Campers led 24-20 after the opening quarter but then outscored Keyser 18-7 in the second period to take a 42-27 lead at the break.



Allegany increased its lead by a point to 56-40 after the third quarter and cruised to victory from there.

Jeremy Green led Keyser (7-6) with 22 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals, while Preston Hartman had 18 points and 8 boards.

Matt Wilmer added 11 points and 5 assists for Keyser, which is now 0-3 against the top two teams in the area - Allegany and Fort Hill.



Allegany also won the JV game, 71-59.

Demetrius Taylor led the Campers with 28 points, while Keyser was led by Wes Stullenbarger's 24.

Keyser will return to action Thursday evening when it travels to take on Hampshire, while Allegany heads into a big showdown this Friday against unbeaten Fort Hill.



Both games are slated for 7:30 p.m.

Unbeaten Fort Hill defeats Keyser, 67-41

KEYSER - Fort Hill had too much firepower for Keyser as the top-ranked Sentinels roared to a 67-41 victory over the fourth-ranked Golden Tornado in an Appalachian Mountian Athletic League game Wednesday night.

Four Fort Hill players scored in double figures with Jordan Brooks leading the way with 20 points. Ryan Brooks was a point of his brother's pace with 19, Corey McCarty had 12 points and Darren Graham had a double-double with 11 rebounds and 10 points. Ryan Brooks also added eight rebounds.

The Golden Tornado got 15 points and five rebounds from Preston Hartman, and 12 points from Matt Wilmer. Jeremy Green finished with 11 points and seven boards.

Fort Hill got out to a 20-9 lead after one quarter and was ahead 47-19 by halftime. McCarty had 10 of his 12 points in the first half and Jordan Brooks had five field goals in the second quarter.

Fort Hill won the jayvee game 46-43 behind Dakota Welsh's 13 points. Wes Stallingbarger had 20 for Keyser.

Fort Hill (12-0, 8-0 AMAC) plays Friday at Mountain Ridge. Keyser (7-5, 4-4) plays host to Allegany on Tuesday.

Fort Hill defeats Keyser, 67-41

Jordan and Ryan Brooks combined for more than half of Fort Hill's points as the Sentinels stayed unbeaten with a convincing 67-41 victory over the Keyser Golden Tornado on Wednesday evening at Tornado Alley.

The Brooks brothers - Jordan the senior and Ryan a junior - combined for 39 of the 67 points as the Sentinels upped their record to 12-0 on the year.

Jordan Brooks led all scorers with 20 points to go along with 4 assists, while Ryan Brooks had 19 points and 8 rebounds.


Fort Hill jumped out to an early lead and was never really challenged after that, as the Sentinels scored more points in the first quarter than Keyser scored in the first half.

The Sentinels led 20-9 after the first period and then outscored Keyser 27-10 in the second frame to take a 47-19 lead at the break.

Keyser was then held to 8 points in the third quarter and trailed 57-27 heading into the final quarter.



The Sentinels made 24 field goals to the Golden Tornado's 18. They also connected on 11-of-14 free throws while Keyser made just 6 trips to the charity stripe and made 3.

Darren Graham recorded a double-double for Fort Hill with 10 points and 11 rebounds, while Cory McCarty added 12 points and Jordan Helmick pulled down 8 rebounds.

Preston Hartman led Keyser (7-5) with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals, while Matt Wilmer added 12 points and Jeremy Green had 11 points and 7 rebounds.



Fort Hill was also victorious in the JV game, 46-43.

Dakota Welch led the Sentinels with 13 points, while Wes Stullenbarger scored a game-high 20 points for Keyser.

The Golden Tornado will return to action Tuesday, Jan. 29, when they host Allegany, while Fort Hill will travel to take on Mountain Ridge this Friday evening.



Both games are slated to tip off at 7:30 p.m.
