Alco Defeats Keyser, 74-72

CUMBERLAND - Allegany outscored Keyser in the third and early fourth quarters, and the Campers fought off a Golden Tornado rally in the end to remain undefeated with a 74-72 victory Wednesday evening in an Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference game.


Five Campers scored in double figures for Allegany, which scored 47 points in the second half. Cameron Butler led the five with an outstanding individual performance. The 5-foot-11 sophomore scored a team-high 17 points, dished out nine assists, grabbed eight rebounds and picked up three steals.

Travis Dordevic just missed a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds. Casey Roberts finished with 14 points, Dustin Wharton had 11 points and four steals and Jeff Babich totaled 10 points, six boards and three steals.

Allegany trailed 18-12 following one quarter, and Keyser increased its lead to 37-27 by halftime. The Campers turned themselves around and held a four-point edge by the end of the third.

"We started attacking their zone defense the way we should have been the whole game," said Allegany coach Tedd Eirich about his team's second-half run.

Keyser fell behind by as many as 10 early in the fourth, but hit some three-point goals later in the period to get within a few baskets. The Tornado scored as time expired for account for the two-point final margin.

Matt Wilmer scored a game-high 25 points for Keyser before fouling out with about a minute left. Preston Hartman finished with 23 points and Jeremy Green added 16.

Allegany won the jayvee game 60-54 to stay unbeaten as well. Adam Boor had 25 points, Trevor Jesse had 13 and Aaron Smith had 11 for the Campers. R.C. Pratt scored 21 for Keyser.

Allegany (7-0, 4-0 AMAC) is at Bishop Walsh on Friday for its first City game of the year. Keyser (3-3, 2-2) will host Hampshire on Friday.
