Keyser defeats Falcons, 75-55

SHORT GAP - The Keyser Golden Tornado jumped out to a big first-quarter lead and maintained it throughout to beat the rival Frankfort Falcons, 75-55, on Friday evening in Short Gap.

The Golden Tornado had three players account for 63 of their 75 points, as Jeremy Green led the way with a game-high 22 points and 10 rebounds.

Matt Wilmer had 21 points and 3 steals, while Preston Hartman, on the strength of 6 three-pointers, had 20 points and a team-high 12 rebounds.


Cody Spotts led Keyser with 8 assists.

Keyser raced out to a 21-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and led by 15 points, 38-23, at the half.

The Golden Tornado upped their lead to 17 points, 56-39, heading into the final quarter.



Skyler Minke led Frankfort with 18 points and Dan Alkire added 12.

Frankfort won the JV game, 52-47.

Marcus Weaver led the Falcons with 18 points, while Logan Wolford added 11 points and James Jones had 10.



Wes Stullenbarger had 11 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for Keyser, which lost just its second game of the season.

Jarell Ross added 8 points.

Keyser (7-4) will return to action Wednesday, Jan. 23, when it hosts Fort Hill for a tripleheader at Tornado Alley.



The Keyser High freshmen will take the court at 4:15 p.m., followed by the JV game at 6 p.m. and the varsity at 7:30.

Frankfort will return to action Monday, Jan. 21, when it travels to take on Southern at 7:30.











Keyser Routs Frankfort, 75-55

SHORT GAP — Fourth-ranked Keyser jumped out to a 21-7 lead in the first period and rolled over host Frankfort 75-55 in a battle of Mineral County schools on Friday night.

Jeremy Green scored 22 points, Matt Wilmer added 21, and Preston Hartman had 20 as the Golden Tornado lifted its record to 7-4 overall and 3-3 in the Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference. Hartman had six of Keyser’s eight three-pointers.

Frankfort (3-7 overall and 1-5 in the conference) was led by Skylar Minke, who had five three-pointers and 18 points. Dan Alkire added 12 points and Saige Shepherd grabbed 13 rebounds.

Keyser led 38-23 at halftime and had a 56-39 advantage going into the final eight minutes.

Frankfort won the junior varsity game 52-47 with Marcus Weaver scoring 18 points, Logan Wolford 11 and James Jones 11. Wesley Stullenbarger had 11 for Keyser.

In the frashman game, Keyser won 43-18 as Kadeem Garland scored 11 points and Payton Hartman 10.

Frankfort plays at Southern on Monday. Keyser hosts Fort Hill on Wednesday.
