Mineral Daily News Tribune

ROMNEY - Three players accounted for all but one point and Keyser survived a bad third quarter en route to a 57-53 victory over the Hampshire Trojans on Thursday evening in Romney.

Preston Hartman, Matt Wilmer and Jeremy Green combined for 56 points as the Golden Tornado improved their record to 8-6 on the year.

Hartman led the way with 22 points and 16 rebounds, while Wilmer added 20 points and Green had 14 points and 11 boards.

Cody Spotts chipped in with a team-high 5 assists.

Keyser took a 20-15 lead after the opening quarter and opened things up in the second frame, holding Hampshire to just 6 points to take a 32-21 lead at the half.

The Trojans returned the favor in the third quarter, holding the Golden Tornado to just 7 points to cut the Keyser lead to 39-37 heading into the final eight minutes.

But Keyser was able to hold off Hampshire in the fourth quarter, as the trio of Hartman, Green and Wilmer did just enough to secure the win.

Robbie Miller led Hampshire with 21 points, while Michael Clark added 10.

Will Hughes, who scored 29 points in Hampshire's 86-83 overtime loss to Keyser on Jan. 4, managed just 10 points on Thursday, with only 2 points coming after the first quarter.

Keyser also won the JV game, 50-31.

Wes Washington led Keyser with 10 points, 8 rebounds, 8 steals and 5 assists, while Wes Stullenbarger added 14 points and 4 steals.

Ollie Douthitt led Hampshire with 8 points.

Keyser will return to action Monday, Feb. 4, when it travels to Southern for a make-up game beginning at 7:30 p.m.
